¹⁰ Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him^[a] there is no ^(A)cause for stumbling.

³ And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we ^(A)keep his commandments.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world—^(A)the desires of the flesh and ^(B)the desires of the eyes and pride of life^[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world. ¹⁷ And ^(C)the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Warning Concerning Antichrists

¹⁸ Children, ^(D)it is the last hour, and as you have heard that ^(E)antichrist is coming, so now ^(F)many antichrists have come. ^(G)Therefore we know that it is the last hour. ^19 (H)They went out from us, but they were not of us; for ^(I)if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, ^(J)that it might become plain that they all are not of us.

^8 (A)Anyone who does not love does not know God, because ^(B)God is love. ⁹ In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that ^(C)God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, ^(D)not that we have loved God ^(E)but that he loved us and sent his Son to be ^(F)the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ^12 (G)No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and ^(H)his love is perfected in us.
