⁷ So we have these three witnesses^[a]—

¹⁹ Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,^[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

^14 [a]May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

³² We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.”

⁶ And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on the cross^[a]—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony.

³³ Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.

³² Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. ³³ I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ ³⁴ I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.^[a]”

Prologue: Christ, the Eternal Word

¹⁶ After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened^[a] and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. ¹⁷ And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
