Concluding Affirmations

¹³ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God^(A) so that you may know that you have eternal life.^(B)

³¹ But these are written that you may believe^[a](A) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,^(B) and that by believing you may have life in his name.^(C)

¹² Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed^(A) in his name,^(B) he gave the right to become children of God^(C)—

²³ And this is his command: to believe^(A) in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,^(B) and to love one another as he commanded us.^(C)

¹⁰ Therefore, my brothers and sisters,^[a] make every effort to confirm your calling^(A) and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,^{(B) 11} and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom^(C) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.^(D)

⁶ Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son^(A) into our hearts,^(B) the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,^[a] Father.”^(C)

¹⁵ Here is a trustworthy saying^(A) that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners^(B)—of whom I am the worst. ¹⁶ But for that very reason I was shown mercy^(C) so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience^(D) as an example for those who would believe^(E) in him and receive eternal life.^(F)

¹⁵ The Spirit^(A) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;^(B) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.^[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,^[b] Father.”^{(C) 16} The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit^(D) that we are God’s children.^{(E) 17} Now if we are children, then we are heirs^(F)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings^(G) in order that we may also share in his glory.^(H)

²³ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,^(A) many people saw the signs^(B) he was performing and believed^(C) in his name.^[a]
