That You May Know

¹³ I write ^(A)these things to you who ^(B)believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

^31 (A)but these are written so that you may ^(B)believe that Jesus is the Christ, ^(C)the Son of God, and that by believing ^(D)you may have life ^(E)in his name.

¹² But to all who did receive him, ^(A)who believed in his name, ^(B)he gave the right ^(C)to become ^(D)children of God,

²³ And this is his commandment, ^(A)that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and ^(B)love one another, ^(C)just as he has commanded us.

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers,^[a] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and ^(A)election, for if you practice these qualities ^(B)you will never fall. ¹¹ For in this way there will be richly provided for you ^(C)an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

⁶ And because you are sons, God has sent ^(A)the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

¹⁵ The saying is ^(A)trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus ^(B)came into the world to save sinners, ^(C)of whom I am the foremost. ¹⁶ But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

¹⁵ For ^(A)you did not receive ^(B)the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of ^(C)adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ^(D)“Abba! Father!” ^16 (E)The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, then ^(F)heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, ^(G)provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

²³ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name ^(A)when they saw the signs that he was doing.
