¹¹ And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

²⁵ And this is what he has promised us,^[a] eternal life.^(A)

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.^(A)

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true;^[a] and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.^(A)

⁹ God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.^(A)

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life but must endure God’s wrath.^(A)

⁴ in him was life,^[a] and the life was the light of all people.^(A)

The Word of Life

1 We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life^(A)— ² this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us^(B)— ³ what we have seen and heard we also declare to you so that you also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.^(C)

² since you have given him authority over all people,^[a] to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.^{(A) 3} And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.^(B)

¹⁰ Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God^[a] have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.^(A)
