God Is Love

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.^(A)

²⁰ Those who say, “I love God,” and hate a brother or sister are liars, for those who do not love a brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.^{(A) 21} The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.

Faith Conquers the World

5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ^[a] has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.^(B)

⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

²² Now that you have purified your souls^[a] by your obedience to the truth^[b] so that you have genuine mutual affection, love one another deeply from the heart.^[c](A)

¹⁰ Whoever loves a brother or sister abides in the light, and in such a person^[a] there is no cause for stumbling.

⁹ Now concerning love of the brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anyone write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another,^{(A) 10} and indeed you do love all the brothers and sisters throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,

The Fruit of the Spirit

²² By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,^(A)

¹² No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.^(A)

¹⁰ The children of God and the children of the devil are revealed in this way: all who do not do what is right are not from God, nor are those who do not love a brother or sister.^(A)

Love One Another

¹¹ For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.^{(B) 12} We must not be like Cain, who was from the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Do not be astonished, brothers and sisters, that the world hates you.^{(C) 14} We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brothers and sisters. Whoever does not love abides in death.^{(D) 15} All who hate a brother or sister are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them.^{(E) 16} We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers and sisters.^{(F) 17} How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?^(G)

¹⁸ Little children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.^{(H) 19} And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him^{(I) 20} whenever our hearts condemn us, for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God, ²² and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him.^(J)

²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.^(K)
