²⁴ Let ^(A)what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then ^(B)you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.

²³ Jesus answered him, ^(A)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and ^(B)we will come to him and ^(C)make our home with him.

^9 (A)As the Father has loved me, ^(B)so have I loved you. Abide in my love. ^10 (C)If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as ^(D)I have kept ^(E)my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

⁵ And now I ask you, dear lady—^(A)not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—^(B)that we love one another. ⁶ And ^(C)this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just ^(D)as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.

¹⁶ So ^(A)we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. ^(B)God is love, and ^(C)whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

^13 (A)By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

^3 (A)Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, ^(B)I will come ^(C)like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.

The New Commandment

⁷ Beloved, I am writing you ^(A)no new commandment, but ^(B)an old commandment ^(C)that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard.

⁷ But ^(A)if we walk in the light, ^(B)as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and ^(C)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
