¹¹ (but if she does separate, let her remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband) and that the husband should not divorce his wife.

Unfaithful Israel

¹⁰ To the married I give this command—not I but the Lord—that the wife should not separate from her husband^(A)

² But his concubine became angry with^[a] him, and she went away from him to her father’s house at Bethlehem in Judah and was there some four months. ³ Then her husband set out after her, to speak tenderly to her and bring her back. He had with him his servant and a couple of donkeys. When he reached^[b] her father’s house, the young woman’s father saw him and came with joy to meet him.^(A)

¹⁹ they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver (which they shall give to the young woman’s father) because he has slandered a virgin of Israel. She shall remain his wife; he shall not be permitted to divorce her as long as he lives.

² Some,^[a] testing him, asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
