⁶ Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.”^(A) Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.^(B)

⁴ Love is patient,^(A) love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.^(B)

¹² What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”;^(A) another, “I follow Apollos”;^(B) another, “I follow Cephas^[a]”;^(C) still another, “I follow Christ.”

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything^(A) for the sake of the elect,^(B) that they too may obtain the salvation^(C) that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.^(D)

⁴ For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached,^(A) or if you receive a different spirit^(B) from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel^(C) from the one you accepted, you put up with it^(D) easily enough.

Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols

8 Now about food sacrificed to idols:^(A) We know that “We all possess knowledge.”^(B) But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

² And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning^(A) and have put out of your fellowship^(B) the man who has been doing this?

¹⁸ Some of you have become arrogant,^(A) as if I were not coming to you.^{(B) 19} But I will come to you very soon,^(C) if the Lord is willing,^(D) and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have.

⁵ because our gospel^(A) came to you not simply with words but also with power,^(B) with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know^(C) how we lived among you for your sake.
