¹² Now ^(A)we have received not ^(B)the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.

²⁷ But ^(A)the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and ^(B)you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and ^(C)is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

⁵ For ^(A)those who live according to the flesh set their minds on ^(B)the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on ^(C)the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to set ^(D)the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

²⁰ But you have been ^(A)anointed by ^(B)the Holy One, and ^(C)you all have knowledge.^[a]

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and ^(A)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and ^(B)has given us understanding, so that we may know ^(C)him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and ^(D)eternal life.

¹⁵ For ^(A)you did not receive ^(B)the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of ^(C)adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ^(D)“Abba! Father!” ^16 (E)The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

¹⁴ He will ^(A)glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. ^15 (B)All that the Father has is mine; ^(C)therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

⁴ Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for ^(A)he who is in you is greater than ^(B)he who is in the world. ^5 (C)They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and ^(D)the world listens to them.

Life in the Spirit

8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.^[a]
