²⁹ Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others ^(A)weigh what is said.

¹⁰ to another ^(A)the working of miracles, to another ^(B)prophecy, to another ^(C)the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another ^(D)various kinds of tongues, to another ^(E)the interpretation of tongues.

^19 (A)Do not quench the Spirit. ²⁰ Do not despise ^(B)prophecies, ²¹ but ^(C)test everything; hold fast what is good.

Test the Spirits

4 Beloved, ^(A)do not believe every spirit, but ^(B)test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for ^(C)many ^(D)false prophets ^(E)have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: ^(F)every spirit that confesses that ^(G)Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, ³ and every spirit ^(H)that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and ^(I)now is in the world already.

³⁹ So, my brothers, ^(A)earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
