²⁹ “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For ^(A)why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?

Serving All Men

¹⁹ For though I am ^(A)free from all men, ^(B)I have made myself a servant to all, ^(C)that I might win the more;

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

^21 (A)providing honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

^32 (A)Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God,

⁹ But ^(A)beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become ^(B)a ^[a]stumbling block to those who are weak. ¹⁰ For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not ^(C)the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? ¹¹ And ^(D)because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? ¹² But ^(E)when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, ^(F)if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

¹⁵ Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. ^(A)Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. ^16 (B)Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; ^17 (C)for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and ^(D)peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ For he who serves Christ in ^[a]these things ^(E)is acceptable to God and approved by men.

^19 (F)Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which ^(G)one may ^[b]edify another. ^20 (H)Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. ^(I)All things indeed are pure, ^(J)but it is evil for the man who eats with ^[c]offense. ²¹ It is good neither to eat ^(K)meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles ^[d]or is offended or is made weak.
