⁴¹ The men whose names were listed came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites in their dwellings and also the Meunites^(A) who were there and completely destroyed^[a] them, as is evident to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.

²⁶ From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.^(A)

A Prophecy Against the Philistines

²⁸ This prophecy^(A) came in the year^(B) King Ahaz^(C) died:

³⁸ The men listed above by name were leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly,

⁸ From watchtower to fortified city,^(A) he defeated the Philistines, as far as Gaza and its territory.

⁹ In King Hezekiah’s fourth year,^(B) which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched against Samaria and laid siege to it. ¹⁰ At the end of three years the Assyrians took it. So Samaria was captured in Hezekiah’s sixth year, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel. ¹¹ The king^(C) of Assyria deported Israel to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in towns of the Medes.^{(D) 12} This happened because they had not obeyed the Lord their God, but had violated his covenant^(E)—all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.^(F) They neither listened to the commands^(G) nor carried them out.

¹² the Sidonians, the Amalekites^(A) and the Maonites^[a](B) oppressed you^(C) and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands?

The Transjordan Tribes

32 The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks,^(A) saw that the lands of Jazer^(B) and Gilead^(C) were suitable for livestock.^{(D) 2} So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community,^(E) and said, ³ “Ataroth,^(F) Dibon,^(G) Jazer,^(H) Nimrah,^(I) Heshbon,^(J) Elealeh,^(K) Sebam,^(L) Nebo^(M) and Beon^(N)— ⁴ the land the Lord subdued^(O) before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock,^(P) and your servants have livestock.
