⁹ Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with single mind they had offered freely to the Lord; King David also rejoiced greatly.^(A)

⁷ Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not regretfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.^{(A) 8} And God is able to provide you with every blessing^[a] in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.^(B)

³ For, as I can testify, they voluntarily gave according to their means and even beyond their means,

⁶¹ Therefore devote yourselves completely to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”^(A)

Acknowledgment of the Philippians’ Gift

¹⁰ I rejoice^[a] in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me but had no opportunity to show it.^[b](A)

¹¹ I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.^(A)

¹⁷ I know, my God, that you search the heart and take pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here offering freely and joyously to you.^(A)

Timothy’s Encouraging Report

⁶ But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought us the good news of your faith and love. He has told us also that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, just as we long to see you.^{(A) 7} For this reason, brothers and sisters, during all our distress and persecution we have been encouraged about you through your faith. ⁸ For we now live, if you continue to stand firm in the Lord. ⁹ How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you?

4 ¹ Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.

¹² For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.^(A)
