^23 (A)Then Solomon sat on the ^(B)throne of the Lord as king in place of David his father. And he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.

⁵ And of ^(A)all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he ^(B)has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

^12 (A)So Solomon sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established.

Submission to the Authorities

13 Let every person ^(A)be subject to the governing authorities. For ^(B)there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

² I say:^[a] Keep the king's command, because of ^(A)God's oath to him.^{[b] 3} Be not hasty to ^(B)go from his presence. Do not take your stand in an evil cause, for he does whatever he pleases. ⁴ For the word of the king is supreme, and ^(C)who may say to him, “What are you doing?” ⁵ Whoever keeps a command will know no evil thing, and the wise heart will know the proper time and the just way.^[c]

¹¹ “Now, my son, ^(A)the Lord be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as he has spoken concerning you.

¹¹ When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
