¹² three years of famine,^(A) three months of being swept away^[a] before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword^(B) of the Lord^(C)—days of plague in the land, with the angel of the Lord ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should answer the one who sent me.”

7 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners^(A) of the earth, holding back the four winds^(B) of the earth to prevent^(C) any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. ² Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal^(D) of the living God.^(E) He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:^{(F) 3} “Do not harm^(G) the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads^(H) of the servants of our God.”

²³ Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel^(A) of the Lord struck him down,^(B) and he was eaten by worms and died.

²⁵ I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.^(A)

⁴⁹ This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous^{(A) 50} and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.^(B)

¹⁹ “Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out my wrath^(A) on it through bloodshed,^(B) killing its people and their animals,^{(C) 20} as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.^(D)

²¹ “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem my four dreadful judgments^(E)—sword^(F) and famine^(G) and wild beasts and plague^(H)—to kill its men and their animals!^(I)

¹⁶ then the sword^(A) you fear^(B) will overtake you there, and the famine^(C) you dread will follow you into Egypt, and there you will die.^(D)
