¹⁹ And when the servants of ^(A)Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became subject to him. So the Syrians were not willing to save the Ammonites anymore.

¹⁷ And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the ^(A)fear of him upon all nations.

¹² When Ben-hadad heard this message as ^(A)he was drinking with the kings in the booths, he said to his men, “Take your positions.” And they took their positions against the city.

Ahab's Wars with Syria

20 ^(A)Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together. ^(B)Thirty-two kings were with him, and horses and chariots. And he went up and closed in on ^(C)Samaria and fought against it.

⁹ They said to him, ^(A)“From a very distant country your servants have come, because of the name of the Lord your God. ^(B)For we have heard a report of him, and all that he did in Egypt, ^10 (C)and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who lived in ^(D)Ashtaroth. ¹¹ So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, ‘Take provisions in your hand for the journey and go to meet them and say to them, “We are your servants. Come now, make a covenant with us.”’
