1 Timothy 5:17-19

GOD’S WORD Translation

¹⁷Give double honor to spiritual leaders ^[a] who handle their duties well. This is especially true if they work hard at teaching God’s word. ¹⁸After all, Scripture says, “Never muzzle an ox when it is threshing ^[b] grain,” and “The worker deserves his pay.”

¹⁹Don’t pay attention to an accusation against a spiritual leader unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.

¹⁷The elders^(A) who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor,^(B) especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. ¹⁸For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,”^[a]^(C) and “The worker deserves his wages.”^[b]^(D) ¹⁹Do not entertain an accusation against an elder^(E) unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.^(F)
