¹⁶Then the man said to Eli, “I am he who came from the battle. And I fled today from the battle line.”

And he said, ^(A)“What happened, my son?”

¹⁶He told Eli, “I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it this very day.”

Eli asked, “What happened, my son?”

³^(A)The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers ^[a]hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.

³The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded^(A) him critically.
