⁴⁷ Now when Saul had taken control of the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, ^(A)the sons of Ammon, Edom, ^(B)the kings of Zobah, and ^(C)the Philistines; and wherever he turned, he ^[a]inflicted punishment.

^16 (A)And Hadadezer sent word and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the Euphrates River, and they came to Helam; and ^(B)Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer ^[a]led them.

¹⁹ When all the kings, servants of Hadadezer, saw that they had been ^[a]defeated by Israel, ^(A)they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the sons of Ammon anymore.
