¹⁰ In her deep anguish^(A) Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. ¹¹ And she made a vow,^(B) saying, “Lord Almighty^(C), if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember^(D) me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life,^(E) and no razor^(F) will ever be used on his head.”

²⁰ So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son.^(A) She named^(B) him Samuel,^[a](C) saying, “Because I asked the Lord for him.”

²⁸ So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life^(A) he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

The Widow’s Offering^(A)

21 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.^{(B) 2} He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. ³ “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. ⁴ All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”^(C)
