Shepherd the Flock of God

So I exhort the elders among you, (A)as a fellow elder and (B)a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: (C)shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight,[a] (D)not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you;[b] (E)not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not (F)domineering over those in your charge, but (G)being examples to the flock. And when (H)the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the (I)unfading (J)crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. (K)Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for (L)“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

To the Elders and the Flock

To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder(A) and a witness(B) of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:(C) Be shepherds of God’s flock(D) that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be;(E) not pursuing dishonest gain,(F) but eager to serve; not lording it over(G) those entrusted to you, but being examples(H) to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd(I) appears, you will receive the crown of glory(J) that will never fade away.(K)

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves(L) to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility(M) toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[a](N)

28 (A)Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all (B)the flock, in which (C)the Holy Spirit has made you (D)overseers, (E)to care for (F)the church of God,[a] which he (G)obtained (H)with his own blood.[b] 29 I (I)know that after my departure (J)fierce wolves will come in among you, (K)not sparing the flock; 30 and (L)from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Therefore (M)be alert, remembering that (N)for three years I did not cease night or day (O)to admonish every one (P)with tears. 32 And now (Q)I commend you to God and to (R)the word of his grace, which is able to (S)build you up and to give you (T)the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
