For in Scripture it says:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
    a chosen and precious cornerstone,(A)
and the one who trusts in him
    will never be put to shame.”[a](B)

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,(C)

“The stone the builders rejected(D)
    has become the cornerstone,”[b](E)

and,

“A stone that causes people to stumble
    and a rock that makes them fall.”[c](F)

They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.(G)

But you are a chosen people,(H) a royal priesthood,(I) a holy nation,(J) God’s special possession,(K) that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.(L) 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;(M) once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
