³⁶ I will give one tribe^(A) to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp^(B) before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.

⁴ Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp^(A) in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.

⁷ Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David,^(A) the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David.^(B) He had promised to maintain a lamp^(C) for him and his descendants forever.
