Faith Conquers the World
5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ[a] has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, 4 for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. 5 Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Testimony concerning the Son of God
6 This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. 7 There are three that testify:[b] 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. 9 If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. 10 Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God[c] have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Epilogue
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
14 And this is the boldness we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him. 16 If you see your brother or sister[d] committing what is not a mortal sin, you will ask, and God[e] will give life to such a one—to those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin that is mortal; I do not say that you should pray about that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not mortal.
18 We know that those who are born of God do not sin, but the one who was born of God protects them, and the evil one does not touch them. 19 We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true;[f] and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.[g]

6 Egli è colui che è venuto con acqua e sangue, cioè Gesù Cristo; non con acqua soltanto, ma con l’acqua e con il sangue. Ed è lo Spirito che ne rende testimonianza, perché lo Spirito è la verità. 7 Poiché tre sono quelli che rendono testimonianza[c]: 8 lo Spirito, l’acqua e il sangue, e i tre sono concordi.
9 Se accettiamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è maggiore, poiché questa è la testimonianza di Dio che egli ha reso al Figlio suo. 10 Chi crede nel Figlio di Dio ha questa testimonianza in sé; chi non crede a Dio, lo fa bugiardo, perché non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha resa al proprio Figlio. 11 E la testimonianza è questa: Dio ci ha dato la vita eterna, e questa vita è nel Figlio suo. 12 Chi ha il Figlio ha la vita; chi non ha il Figlio di Dio, non ha la vita.
13 Vi ho scritto queste cose perché sappiate che avete la vita eterna, voi che credete nel nome del Figlio di Dio[d].
14 (B)Questa è la fiducia che abbiamo in lui: che se domandiamo qualche cosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci esaudisce. 15 Se sappiamo che egli ci esaudisce in ciò che gli chiediamo, noi sappiamo di avere le cose che gli abbiamo chieste.
16 Se qualcuno vede suo fratello commettere un peccato che non conduca a morte, preghi, e Dio gli darà la vita: a quelli, cioè, che commettono un peccato che non conduca a morte. Vi è un peccato che conduce a morte; non è per quello che dico di pregare. 17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma c’è un peccato che non conduce a morte.
18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio non persiste nel peccare; ma colui che nacque da Dio lo protegge[e], e il maligno non lo tocca. 19 Noi sappiamo che siamo da Dio, e che tutto il mondo giace sotto il potere del maligno. 20 Sappiamo pure che il Figlio di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato intelligenza per conoscere colui che è il Vero; e noi siamo in colui che è il Vero, cioè nel suo Figlio Gesù Cristo. 5 Jeder, der glaubt, dass Jesus der Christus ist, der ist aus Gott geboren; und wer den liebt, der ihn geboren hat, der liebt auch den, der aus Ihm geboren ist.
2 Daran erkennen wir, dass wir die Kinder Gottes lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote halten.
3 Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, dass wir seine Gebote halten; und seine Gebote sind nicht schwer.
4 Denn alles, was aus Gott geboren ist, überwindet die Welt; und unser Glaube ist der Sieg, der die Welt überwunden hat.
5 Wer ist es, der die Welt überwindet, wenn nicht der, welcher glaubt, dass Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist?
Das Zeugnis Gottes über seinen Sohn
6 Er ist es, der durch Wasser und Blut gekommen ist, Jesus der Christus; nicht durch Wasser allein, sondern durch Wasser und Blut. Und der Geist ist es, der Zeugnis gibt, weil der Geist die Wahrheit ist.
7 Denn drei sind es, die Zeugnis ablegen im Himmel: der Vater, das Wort[a] und der Heilige Geist, und diese drei sind eins;
8 und drei sind es, die Zeugnis ablegen auf der Erde[b]: der Geist und das Wasser und das Blut, und die drei stimmen überein.
9 Wenn wir das Zeugnis der Menschen annehmen, so ist das Zeugnis Gottes größer; denn das ist das Zeugnis Gottes, das er von seinem Sohn abgelegt hat.
10 Wer an den Sohn Gottes glaubt, der hat das Zeugnis in sich selbst; wer Gott nicht glaubt, der hat ihn zum Lügner gemacht, weil er nicht an das Zeugnis geglaubt hat, das Gott von seinem Sohn abgelegt hat.
11 Und darin besteht das Zeugnis, dass Gott uns ewiges Leben gegeben hat, und dieses Leben ist in seinem Sohn.
12 Wer den Sohn hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, der hat das Leben nicht.
13 Dies habe ich euch geschrieben, die ihr glaubt an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes, damit ihr wisst, dass ihr ewiges Leben habt, und damit ihr [auch weiterhin] an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes glaubt.
Das Gebet der Kinder Gottes und ihre Haltung zur Sünde
14 Und das ist die Freimütigkeit, die wir ihm gegenüber haben, dass er uns hört, wenn wir seinem Willen gemäß um etwas bitten.
15 Und wenn wir wissen, dass er uns hört, um was wir auch bitten, so wissen wir, dass wir das Erbetene haben, das wir von ihm erbeten haben.
16 Wenn jemand seinen Bruder sündigen sieht, eine Sünde nicht zum Tode, so soll er bitten, und Er wird ihm Leben geben, solchen, die nicht zum Tode sündigen. Es gibt Sünde zum Tode; dass man für eine solche bitten soll, sage ich nicht.
17 Jede Ungerechtigkeit ist Sünde; aber es gibt Sünde nicht zum Tode.
18 Wir wissen, dass jeder, der aus Gott geboren ist, nicht sündigt[c]; sondern wer aus Gott geboren ist, der bewahrt sich selbst, und der Böse tastet ihn nicht an.
19 Wir wissen, dass wir aus Gott sind und dass die ganze Welt sich im Bösen befindet.[d]
20 Wir wissen aber, dass der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und uns Verständnis gegeben hat, damit wir den Wahrhaftigen erkennen. Und wir sind in dem Wahrhaftigen, in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus. Dieser ist der wahrhaftige Gott und das ewige Leben.
21 Kinder, hütet euch vor den Götzen[e]! Amen.

5 Aki hiszi, hogy Jézus a Krisztus, Istentől született, és aki szereti azt, aki szülte, azt is szereti, aki attól született.
2 Abból tudjuk meg, hogy szeretjük Isten gyermekeit, ha szeretjük Istent, és megtartjuk az ő parancsolatait.
3 Mert az az Isten iránti szeretet, hogy parancsolatait megtartjuk, az ő parancsolatai pedig nem nehezek.
4 Mert minden, ami Istentől született, legyőzi a világot, és az a győzelem, amely legyőzte a világot, a mi hitünk.

5 Celui qui croit que Jésus est Christ est né de Dieu. Et celui qui aime le Père, qui fait naître à la vie, aime aussi les enfants nés de lui.
2 Voici comment nous savons que nous aimons les enfants de Dieu : c’est lorsque nous aimons Dieu lui-même et que nous obéissons à ses commandements. 3 Car aimer Dieu, c’est accomplir ses commandements. Ceux-ci, d’ailleurs, ne sont pas pénibles, 4 car tout ce qui est né de Dieu triomphe du monde, et la victoire qui triomphe du monde, c’est notre foi. 5 Qui, en effet, triomphe du monde ? Celui-là seul qui croit que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu.
6 Celui qui est venu par l’eau et par le sang, c’est bien Jésus-Christ : il n’est pas passé seulement par l’eau du baptême, mais outre le baptême, il est passé par la mort en versant son sang[a]. Et c’est l’Esprit qui lui rend témoignage, car l’Esprit est la vérité. 7 Ainsi il y a trois témoins : 8 l’Esprit, l’eau et le sang ; et les trois sont d’accord.
9 Nous acceptons le témoignage des hommes ; mais le témoignage de Dieu est bien supérieur, et ce témoignage, c’est celui que Dieu a rendu à son Fils. 10 Celui qui croit au Fils de Dieu possède ce témoignage en lui-même. Celui qui ne croit pas Dieu fait de lui un menteur, puisqu’il ne croit pas le témoignage que Dieu a rendu à son Fils. 11 Et qu’affirme ce témoignage ? Il dit que Dieu nous a donné la vie éternelle et que cette vie est en son Fils.
12 Celui qui a le Fils a la vie. Celui qui n’a pas le Fils de Dieu n’a pas la vie.
13 Je vous ai écrit cela, pour que vous sachiez que vous avez la vie éternelle, vous qui croyez au Fils de Dieu. 14 Et voici quelle assurance nous avons devant Dieu : si nous demandons quelque chose qui est conforme à sa volonté, il nous écoute. 15 Et si nous savons qu’il nous écoute, nous savons aussi que l’objet de nos demandes nous est acquis.
Le chrétien et le péché
16 Si quelqu’un voit son frère commettre un péché qui ne mène pas à la mort, qu’il prie pour ce frère et Dieu lui donnera la vie. Il s’agit de ceux qui commettent des péchés qui ne mènent pas à la mort. Mais il existe un péché qui mène à la mort. Ce n’est pas au sujet de ce péché-là que je vous demande de prier.
17 Toute désobéissance à la Loi est un péché, certes, mais tous les péchés ne mènent pas à la mort. 18 Nous savons que celui qui est né de Dieu ne commet pas le péché qui mène à la mort[b], car le Fils né de Dieu le protège[c]. Aussi le diable[d] ne peut pas le dominer. 19 Nous savons que nous sommes de Dieu, alors que le monde entier est sous la coupe du diable[e]. 20 Mais nous savons aussi que le Fils de Dieu est venu et qu’il nous a donné l’intelligence pour que nous connaissions le Dieu véritable. Ainsi, nous sommes unis au Dieu véritable, de par notre union à son Fils Jésus-Christ. Ce Fils est lui-même le Dieu véritable et la vie éternelle.
