1 John 4:17-5:5

¹⁷By this, ^(A)love is perfected with us, so that we may have ^(B)confidence in ^(C)the day of judgment; because ^(D)as He is, we also are in this world. ¹⁸There is no fear in love, but ^(E)perfect love drives out fear, because fear ^[a]involves punishment, and the one who fears is not ^(F)perfected in love. ¹⁹^(G)We love, because He first loved us. ²⁰^(H)If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he ^(I)hates his brother or sister, he is a ^(J)liar; for ^(K)the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, ^(L)cannot love God, whom he has not seen. ²¹And ^(M)this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God ^(N)must also love his brother and sister.

Overcoming the World

5 ^(O)Everyone who believes that Jesus is the ^[b]Christ has been ^(P)born of God, and everyone who loves the ^[c]Father ^(Q)loves the child born of Him. ²^(R)By this we know that ^(S)we love the children of God, when we love God and ^[d]follow His commandments. ³For ^(T)this is the love of God, that we ^(U)keep His commandments; and ^(V)His commandments are not burdensome. ⁴For ^[e]whoever has been ^(W)born of God ^(X)overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.
