Psalm 106(A)

Praise the Lord.[a](B)

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;(C)
    his love endures forever.(D)

Who can proclaim the mighty acts(E) of the Lord
    or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,(F)
who always do what is right.(G)

Remember me,(H) Lord, when you show favor(I) to your people,
come to my aid(J) when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity(K) of your chosen ones,(L)
that I may share in the joy(M) of your nation
and join your inheritance(N) in giving praise.

We have sinned,(O) even as our ancestors(P) did;
we have done wrong and acted wickedly.(Q)

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 106:1 Hebrew Hallelu Yah; also in verse 48

19 At Horeb they made a calf(A)
and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God(B)
for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God(C) who saved them,
who had done great things(D) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham(E)
and awesome deeds(F) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy(G) them—
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach(H) before him
to keep his wrath from destroying them.

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone(A) with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”

13 Then Moses set out with Joshua(B) his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain(C) of God. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur(D) are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute(E) can go to them.”

15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud(F) covered it, 16 and the glory(G) of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai.(H) For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud.(I) 17 To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire(J) on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty(K) days and forty nights.(L)

Jesus Questioned About Fasting(A)

18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting.(B) Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them,(C) and on that day they will fast.

21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
