悪い女に近づかないようにしなさい
7 わが子よ。私の忠告を聞きなさい。
この忠告をいつも心に留めて、
忘れないようにしなさい。
2 それが生きる秘訣です。
私のことばを宝物のように大事にしなさい。
3 肝に銘じ、心に刻みつけなさい。
4 知恵を恋人のように愛し、
家族のように親しくしなさい。
5 そうすれば、悪い女の家に通うことも、
甘いことばに耳を貸すこともなくなります。
6 ある日、窓の外を眺めると、
7 意志の弱そうな者の中に、
思慮に欠けた一人の若者が通りを歩いていました。
8-9 もうまもなく日も暮れようという時です。
若者は悪い女を訪ねました。
10 女はなまめかしい身なりで、
媚を売りながら若者に近づきます。
11-12 よく通りや市場で見かける、
下品でがさつな女です。
そうやって、あちこちの町角で男を誘惑するのです。
13 女はその若者を抱きしめて口づけし、
何食わぬ顔で言いました。
14-15 「私の家にいらっしゃい。
おいしいごちそうを作りましょう。
16-17 寝床には最高のエジプト麻の
すてきなシーツを敷いて、
没薬やアロエやシナモンの香りがしみ込ませてあるの。
18 さあ、朝までうんと楽しみましょう。
19 夫は長い旅に出ています。
20 お金をたくさん持って行ったので、
数日は帰らないでしょう。」
21 女が巧みにくどくので、
若者はとうとう甘いことばに負けてしまいました。
22 彼は屠り場に引かれて行く牛のように、
罠にかかった鹿のように女のあとについて行き、
23 心臓を射抜かれるのを待つだけです。
まるで罠に飛び込む鳥のように、
どんな運命が待ち受けているか知らないのです。
24 子どもたちよ。私の言うことを聞き、
そのとおりにしなさい。
25 どうにもならなくなる前に欲望を抑えなさい。
女のことなど考えないようにして、
言い寄るすきを与えないように、
彼女のいそうな所は避けて通りなさい。
26 大ぜいの者が彼女のために一生を棒にふりました。
犠牲者は数えきれないほどです。
27 それでも、あえて地獄への道を知りたい人は、
彼女の家を探しなさい。
知恵の勧め
8 1-3 知恵が呼んでいるのが聞こえませんか。
丘の頂や道ばた、町の門、四つ角、家々の玄関で、
知恵は叫んでいます。
4-5 「皆さん、あなたがたは何もわかっていない。
愚かなことばかりしている。
だから、わからせてあげよう。
6-7 これは大切なことだ。
わたしはごまかしは大きらいだから、
絶対にうそはつかない。
8 皆さんのためになること、正しいことしか言わない。
9 聞く気があれば、だれにでもすぐわかること、
10 それでいて、銀や金よりも値打があることを教えよう。」
11 知恵は宝石よりずっと価値があります。
どんな物も比べものになりません。
12 知恵のある人は正しい判断ができます。
知恵がその人に、いろいろなことを教えるからです。
13 主をないがしろにしないで尊ぶ人は、
悪いことがきらいです。
知恵のある人はみな、
傲慢や腐敗やごまかしをきらいます。
14-15 「わたし、知恵が
ためになることを教えてあげよう。
王が国を治めるのも、裁判官が善悪を見分けるのも、
わたしによる。
16 国の指導者は、知恵であるわたしがいなければ
正しく治めることはできない。
17 わたしは、わたしを愛する人を愛するから、
熱心に探せば必ずわたしを見いだす。
18 いつまでも続く富と名誉、正しいことを行う力は
わたしにある。
19 それがわたしの贈り物。
純金やよりすぐりの銀よりもすばらしい。
20 わたしはだれをも正しく扱い、えこひいきしない。
21 だから、わたしを愛し、わたしのことばを守る人は、
あらゆる面で裕福になる。
22 主は創造のみわざを始める前に、わたしを造られた。
23 永遠の昔から、まだ地球もない大昔から、
わたしはいた。
24 海もなく、泉もなく、
25 山や丘がそびえる以前から、わたしはいた。
26 主が大地や草原を造る以前に、わたしはすでにいた。
27-29 主が大地の上に天を広げ、
海の底から大きな泉をわき上がらせたとき、
わたしはそこにいた。
海と陸の境界線を決め、
水があふれないようにされたときも、わたしはいた。
そうだ。主が大地と海の青写真を作ったとき、
わたしもいたのだ。
30 わたしはいつもいっしょに働き、
子どものように毎日そばにいて、主を喜ばせた。
31 そして主が造られたこの世界で、
人々と楽しく過ごした。
32 だから、わたしのことばに聞き従いなさい。
わたしの命令を守ることが幸福のかぎなのだから。
33 わたしの言うことを聞いて、
知恵ある人になりなさい。
耳をふさいではいけない。
34 何としてもいっしょにいたいと、
毎日門の前で、わたしが出て来るのを
待ちかまえている人は幸せだ。
35 わたしを見いだす人はいのちを見いだし、
主に受け入れていただくことができる。
36 しかしわたしを見失う人は、自分をだめにする。
わたしの忠告を退ける人は死を愛しているのだ。」
知恵と愚かな女の勧め
9 知恵はりっぱな宮殿を建て、
2 大宴会を開こうと、ぶどう酒を用意し、
3 娘たちに客を呼びに行かせました。
娘たちは人通りの多い場所で呼びかけました。
4 「謙遜な人々は、
どうぞおいでください。
5 知恵が開く宴会で、私が作ったぶどう酒を
お召し上がりください。
6 どうしたら賢くなれるか、
賢明に生きられるか、よくわかるでしょう。」
7-8 人をさげすむような者に忠告を与えても、
辛辣なことばで言い返されるだけです。
その人のことを思ってしてあげても、
恨まれるだけなので、
もうかかわらないほうがよいのです。
知恵のある人は違います。
忠告すると、前以上にあなたを愛してくれます。
9 知恵のある人を教えなさい。
その人は、ますます賢くなります。
正しい人を教えなさい。
その人は、さらに多くのことがわかるようになります。
10 知恵の基本は、主を恐れ、大切にすることです。
物事がよくわかるようにしたければ、
まず神を知りなさい。
11 「生きがいのある実り多い人生を
送らせてあげよう」と、知恵は勧めます。
12 知恵は知恵ある人を助けます。
知恵をあざけるなら、自分が傷つくだけです。
13 悪い女はがさつで、みだらで、恥知らずです。
14 自分の家の前や町角で、
15 通りがかりの人や仕事に出かける人を
つかまえては誘惑し、
16 だましやすそうな人を見つけると、
しつこくささやきかけます。
「私の家にいらっしゃい。
17 盗んだ水は甘く、盗んだ食べ物はおいしいのです。」
18 彼らは、この女の客になった者が
今は地獄にいることを知らないのです。

Warning Against the Adulterous Woman
7 My son,(A) keep my words
and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live;(B)
guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.(C)
4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and to insight, “You are my relative.”
5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.(D)
6 At the window of my house
I looked down through the lattice.
7 I saw among the simple,
I noticed among the young men,
a youth who had no sense.(E)
8 He was going down the street near her corner,
walking along in the direction of her house
9 at twilight,(F) as the day was fading,
as the dark of night set in.
10 Then out came a woman to meet him,
dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
11 (She is unruly(G) and defiant,
her feet never stay at home;
12 now in the street, now in the squares,
at every corner she lurks.)(H)
13 She took hold of him(I) and kissed him
and with a brazen face she said:(J)
14 “Today I fulfilled my vows,
and I have food from my fellowship offering(K) at home.
15 So I came out to meet you;
I looked for you and have found you!
16 I have covered my bed
with colored linens from Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed(L)
with myrrh,(M) aloes and cinnamon.
18 Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning;
let’s enjoy ourselves with love!(N)
19 My husband is not at home;
he has gone on a long journey.
20 He took his purse filled with money
and will not be home till full moon.”
21 With persuasive words she led him astray;
she seduced him with her smooth talk.(O)
22 All at once he followed her
like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer[a] stepping into a noose[b](P)
23 till an arrow pierces(Q) his liver,
like a bird darting into a snare,
little knowing it will cost him his life.(R)
24 Now then, my sons, listen(S) to me;
pay attention to what I say.
25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.(T)
26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
her slain are a mighty throng.
27 Her house is a highway to the grave,
leading down to the chambers of death.(U)
Wisdom’s Call
8 Does not wisdom call out?(V)
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 At the highest point along the way,
where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
3 beside the gate leading into the city,
at the entrance, she cries aloud:(W)
4 “To you, O people, I call out;(X)
I raise my voice to all mankind.
5 You who are simple,(Y) gain prudence;(Z)
you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.[c]
6 Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say;
I open my lips to speak what is right.
7 My mouth speaks what is true,(AA)
for my lips detest wickedness.
8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse.
9 To the discerning all of them are right;
they are upright to those who have found knowledge.
10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,(AB)
11 for wisdom is more precious(AC) than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.(AD)
12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.(AE)
13 To fear the Lord(AF) is to hate evil;(AG)
I hate(AH) pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech.
14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have insight, I have power.(AI)
15 By me kings reign
and rulers(AJ) issue decrees that are just;
16 by me princes govern,(AK)
and nobles—all who rule on earth.[d]
17 I love those who love me,(AL)
and those who seek me find me.(AM)
18 With me are riches and honor,(AN)
enduring wealth and prosperity.(AO)
19 My fruit is better than fine gold;(AP)
what I yield surpasses choice silver.(AQ)
20 I walk in the way of righteousness,(AR)
along the paths of justice,
21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me
and making their treasuries full.(AS)
22 “The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works,[e][f]
before his deeds of old;
23 I was formed long ages ago,
at the very beginning, when the world came to be.
24 When there were no watery depths, I was given birth,
when there were no springs overflowing with water;(AT)
25 before the mountains were settled in place,(AU)
before the hills, I was given birth,(AV)
26 before he made the world or its fields
or any of the dust of the earth.(AW)
27 I was there when he set the heavens in place,(AX)
when he marked out the horizon(AY) on the face of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above(AZ)
and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,(BA)
29 when he gave the sea its boundary(BB)
so the waters would not overstep his command,(BC)
and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.(BD)
30 Then I was constantly[g] at his side.(BE)
I was filled with delight day after day,
rejoicing always in his presence,
31 rejoicing in his whole world
and delighting in mankind.(BF)
32 “Now then, my children, listen(BG) to me;
blessed are(BH) those who keep my ways.(BI)
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
do not disregard it.
34 Blessed are those who listen(BJ) to me,
watching daily at my doors,
waiting at my doorway.
35 For those who find me(BK) find life(BL)
and receive favor from the Lord.(BM)
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;(BN)
all who hate me love death.”(BO)
Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
9 Wisdom has built(BP) her house;
she has set up[h] its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;(BQ)
she has also set her table.(BR)
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls(BS)
from the highest point of the city,(BT)
4 “Let all who are simple(BU) come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(BV) she says,
5 “Come,(BW) eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.(BX)
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;(BY)
walk in the way of insight.”(BZ)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.(CA)
8 Do not rebuke mockers(CB) or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.(CC)
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.(CD)
10 The fear of the Lord(CE) is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One(CF) is understanding.(CG)
11 For through wisdom[i] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.(CH)
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
13 Folly is an unruly woman;(CI)
she is simple and knows nothing.(CJ)
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the highest point of the city,(CK)
15 calling out(CL) to those who pass by,
who go straight on their way,
16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(CM) she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!(CN)”
18 But little do they know that the dead are there,
that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.(CO)

ユダヤ人への神の約束
9 1-3 私の同胞であるイスラエルの人々、同国人であるユダヤ人の人たちがキリストのもとに来ることを、私はどんなに望んでいるでしょう。昼も夜も、彼らのことで心は重く、悲しみのあまり、胸も張り裂けんばかりです。彼らがキリストによって救われるためなら、私は永遠にのろわれてもかまいません。むしろ、のろわれたいくらいです。口先だけでこう言っているのでないことは、キリストも聖霊もご存じです。 4 神は実に多くのものを与えてくださいました。それなのに彼らは、いっこうに神に聞き従おうとしません。神はユダヤ人たちをご自分の特別な民として選び出し、栄光に輝く雲によって導き、また、どんなに祝福したいと思っているかをお示しになりました。さらに、生きる上でのさまざまな規則も与えてくださったので、彼らは、神が自分たちに何を望んでおられるかを知ることができました。神はまた、彼らに神を礼拝することを教え、数々のすばらしい約束を与えてくださいました。 5 彼らの先祖には、神を信じる偉大な人物がいます。キリストも、人間としての出生についてだけ言えばユダヤ人であり、彼らの同胞だったのです。このキリストこそ、すべてのものを支配しておられる方で、永遠にほめたたえられる神です。
6 それでは、ユダヤ人に対する神の約束は無効になったのでしょうか。そんなことはありません。ユダヤ人に生まれついた者がみな、真の意味でのユダヤ人だとは限りません。 7 血筋の上でアブラハムの子孫だからと言って、真の意味でのアブラハムの子孫とは限りません。なぜなら、アブラハムにはイサクのほかにも子どもがいたが、神の約束が適用されるのは、イサクとその子孫だけであると聖書にあるからです。 8 つまり、アブラハムの子どもが全部神の子なのではなく、神がアブラハムにお与えになった救いの約束を信じる人々だけが神の子どもなのです。
9 神はアブラハムに、「来年の今ごろ、わたしはあなたとサラに男の子を授けよう」（創世18・10）と約束されました。 10-13 それだけでなく、彼の息子イサクの場合にも同じことが言えます。その妻リベカがみごもって、ふたごを産もうとしている時、神はリベカに、「兄が弟に仕える」（創世25・23）とお告げになりました。「わたしはエサウではなく、ヤコブを祝福する」（マラキ1・2-3）とあるとおりです。神がこう宣言されたのは、彼らがまだ生まれてもおらず、まだ良いことも悪いこともしていなかった時のことです。このことからもはっきりわかるように、神は最初から決めておいたことを実行されたのです。彼らの行いによってではなく、神の意思と選びによって、すべてが決定されたのです。
14 では、神は不公平なのでしょうか。絶対にそんなことはありません。 15 神はモーセにこう言われました。「わたしは、恵もうと思う者を恵み、あわれもうと思う者をあわれむ。」（出エジプト33・19） 16 したがって、神の祝福は、だれかがそれを得ようと決心したからとか、そのために努力したからといって与えられるものではありません。それは、神のあわれみによって与えられるものなのです。 17 エジプトの王パロの場合は、その良い例です。神はパロにこう言われました。「あなたにエジプトの国を与えたのは、わたしの恐るべき力をあなたに示すため、それによって、世界中の人々が、わたしの栄光ある名を耳にするためである。」（出エジプト9・16） 18 これでわかるように、神はみこころのままに、ある人々をあわれみ、ある人々を不従順な者とされるのです。
19 「では、なぜ神は人々の不従順をお責めになるのでしょう」と、あなたがたは言いますか。「神のお考えどおりにしたのではありませんか」と。 20 そんなことを言ってはなりません。神を非難するあなたは、いったい何者なのですか。造られた者が造った者に、「なぜ私をこのように造ったのですか」などと言ってよいでしょうか。 21 ある人が粘土でつぼを作る時、その人は同じ粘土のかたまりを、一つは美しい花びんに、もう一つはふだん使いの容器に作り上げる権利を持っていないでしょうか。 22 そのように、どう考えても滅びるしかないような人々に対して、怒りと力を示す権利が神にないとでも言うのですか。しかも神は、これまでずっと忍耐してこられたのです。 23-24 同時に神は、ユダヤ人であっても外国人であっても、ご自分の栄光のために呼び出し、あわれみを与えることで、神がどんなに偉大な方かをすべての人に示す権利を持っておられます。 25 聖書のホセア書に何と書いてあるか、思い出してください。神は、こう言っておられます。
「わたしは自分のために、
ほかの子ら（ユダヤ人以外の家系の者）を
見つけ出し、
だれからも愛されたことのない、
その子らを愛する。
26 そして、かつては
『わたしの民ではない』と宣告された異教徒たちが、
『生ける神の子ら』と呼ばれるようになる。」（ホセア2・23）
27 またユダヤ人については、預言者イザヤがこう語りました。
「たとえイスラエルの子どもの数が
海辺の砂のように多くても、
一握りの者しか救われない。
28 主はおことばを完全に、しかもすみやかに、
地上に成し遂げられる。」（イザヤ10・22）
29 イザヤはまた、ほかの箇所でこう語っています。
「神のあわれみがなかったら、
ユダヤ人はみな、
ちょうどソドムやゴモラに住む人々が
全滅したように、
一人残らず滅ぼされたに違いない。」（イザヤ1・9）
30 では、どういうことになるでしょう。信仰によって与えられる神の救いを求めなかった外国人は、救いの機会を得ました。まさに、信仰による救いです。神は、信仰によって無罪とされる機会をお与えになりました。 31 一方、ユダヤ人は律法を守ることによって、神の救いを追い求めようと努力したのに、それを得ることができませんでした。 32 なぜでしょう。信仰によってではなく、行いによって救われようとしたからです。彼らは、キリストというつまずきの石につまずいたのです。 33 このことについて、神は次のように警告しておられます。
「わたしはユダヤ人の通り道に、一つの岩を置く。
多くの者が、それ（イエス）につまずくであろう。
しかし、この方を信じる者は、
決して失望させられることがない。」（イザヤ28・16）

Paul’s Anguish Over Israel
9 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying,(A) my conscience confirms(B) it through the Holy Spirit— 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself(C) were cursed(D) and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people,(E) those of my own race,(F) 4 the people of Israel.(G) Theirs is the adoption to sonship;(H) theirs the divine glory,(I) the covenants,(J) the receiving of the law,(K) the temple worship(L) and the promises.(M) 5 Theirs are the patriarchs,(N) and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah,(O) who is God over all,(P) forever praised Amen.
God’s Sovereign Choice
6 It is not as though God’s word(R) had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.(S) 7 Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[b](T) 8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children,(U) but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.(V) 9 For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”[c](W)
10 Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac.(X) 11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad(Y)—in order that God’s purpose(Z) in election might stand: 12 not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”[d](AA) 13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”[e](AB)
14 What then shall we say?(AC) Is God unjust? Not at all!(AD) 15 For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[f](AE)
16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.(AF) 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[g](AG) 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.(AH)
19 One of you will say to me:(AI) “Then why does God still blame us?(AJ) For who is able to resist his will?”(AK) 20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God?(AL) “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,(AM) ‘Why did you make me like this?’”[h](AN) 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?(AO)
22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience(AP) the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction?(AQ) 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory(AR) known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory(AS)— 24 even us, whom he also called,(AT) not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?(AU) 25 As he says in Hosea:
“I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people;
and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”[i](AV)
26 and,
“In the very place where it was said to them,
‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’”[j](AW)
27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:
“Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,(AX)
only the remnant will be saved.(AY)
28 For the Lord will carry out
his sentence on earth with speed and finality.”[k](AZ)
29 It is just as Isaiah said previously:
“Unless the Lord Almighty(BA)
had left us descendants,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.”[l](BB)
Israel’s Unbelief
30 What then shall we say?(BC) That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;(BD) 31 but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness,(BE) have not attained their goal.(BF) 32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.(BG) 33 As it is written:
