We wanted to find out, so we crunched some numbers. The results might surprise you! Or they might not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One surprise for us was the ascendancy of the Psalms this year, which captured over a third of the top 100. Another was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah%2029%3A11&amp;utm_source=bg&amp;utm_medium=bglearn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeremiah 29:11<\/a> edging out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%203%3A16&amp;utm_source=bg&amp;utm_medium=bglearn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John 3:16<\/a> for the top (non-psalm) spot. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%201%3A1&amp;utm_source=bg&amp;utm_medium=bglearn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Genesis 1:1<\/a> dropped off the list this year, while Revelation didn\u2019t make a single appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/learn\/bible-verses\/top-verses-2025-year-in-review\/\"><strong>(See what&#8217;s changed in our Top 100 Verses of 2025!)<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But before we get ahead of ourselves, let\u2019s take a quick overhead look at the data, then we\u2019ll dive into the verses. Scroll to the bottom if you\u2019re curious about our methodology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top Bible Verses, by the Numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let\u2019s get a bird\u2019s-eye view of the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the top 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/learn\/bible-101\/bible-verses-and-chapters\/\">Bible verses<\/a> read on Bible Gateway in 2024&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The most popular book<\/strong> (by far) was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/learn\/bible-101\/books-of-the-bible\/psalms-renew-your-mind\/\">Psalms<\/a>, claiming well over a third (39) of the top 100 verses (mostly thanks to Psalms 23, 91, 121, and 1 \u2014 on that, see below) \u2014 six more verses than last year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The <em>second<\/em> most popular book<\/strong> was 1 Corinthians, with six verses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The most popular chapter<\/strong> (also by far) was, depending on how you measure it, either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2023&amp;utm_source=bg&amp;utm_medium=bglearn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Psalm 23<\/a>, which claims the first six verses on the list; or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2091&amp;utm_source=bg&amp;utm_medium=bglearn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Psalm 91<\/a>, with a whopping 16 verses, all in the top 25. (This suggests readers are usually reading these entire psalms, rather than isolated verses. In general, Paul was very well represented, with 31 verses from Pauline epistles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The top 100 is <strong>divided evenly between Old and New Testaments<\/strong>, with 50 of the top 100 verses each (though remember only 11 of those Old Testament verses are <em>not<\/em> from the Psalms).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With <strong>Psalms and Paul each claiming around one-third<\/strong> of the top 100, that leaves only <strong>30 verses from the entire rest of the Bible combined<\/strong>. Ten of those verses are from the Gospels (Matthew and John, to be precise; neither Mark nor Luke made the list), so that&#8217;s only 20 verses from the remaining 50 books of the Bible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top 100 Bible Verses at BibleGateway.com<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the top 100 most viewed Bible verses on BibleGateway.com.
