14:38 does not recognize this, he is not recognized. See note 13:12 for the contrast between knowing and being known. The present verse may be a warning that those who are stubborn will be disciplined by Paul or by the church (2 Thess. 3:14), but the language suggests that they will come under direct divine judgment.
