⁶ knowing this, that ^(A)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(B)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ⁷ For ^(C)he who has died has been ^[b]freed from sin. ⁸ Now ^(D)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, ⁹ knowing that ^(E)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. ¹⁰ For the death that He died, ^(F)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, ^(G)He lives to God. ¹¹ Likewise you also, ^[c]reckon yourselves to be ^(H)dead indeed to sin, but ^(I)alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

^12 (J)Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. ¹³ And do not present your ^(K)members as ^[d]instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but ^(L)present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. ¹⁴ For ^(M)sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

From Slaves of Sin to Slaves of God

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin ^(N)because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! ¹⁶ Do you not know that ^(O)to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? ¹⁷ But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart ^(P)that form of doctrine to which you were ^[e]delivered. ¹⁸ And ^(Q)having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness ^[f]for holiness.

²⁰ For when you were ^(R)slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ^21 (S)What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For ^(T)the end of those things is death. ²² But now ^(U)having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit ^[g]to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

Living Sacrifices to God

12 I ^(A)beseech^[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies ^(B)a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your ^[b]reasonable service. ² And ^(C)do not be conformed to this world, but ^(D)be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may ^(E)prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Stewards of the Mysteries of God

4 Let a man so consider us, as ^(A)servants of Christ ^(B)and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

¹⁹ Or ^(A)do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, ^(B)and you are not your own? ²⁰ For ^(C)you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body ^[a]and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Glorify God in Body and Spirit

^12 (A)All things are lawful for me, but all things are not ^[a]helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of ^[b]any.

Collection for the Saints

16 Now concerning ^(A)the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: ^2 (B)On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. ³ And when I come, ^(C)whomever you approve by your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem. ^4 (D)But if it is fitting that I go also, they will go with me.

Excel in Giving

8 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: ² that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and ^(A)their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. ³ For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, ⁴ imploring us with much urgency ^[a]that we would receive the gift and ^(B)the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. ⁵ And not only as we had hoped, but they first ^(C)gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the ^(D)will of God. ⁶ So ^(E)we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well. ⁷ But as ^(F)you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see ^(G)that you abound in this grace also.

Christ Our Pattern

^8 (H)I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(I)that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become ^(J)rich.

¹⁰ And in this ^(K)I give advice: ^(L)It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and ^(M)were desiring to do a year ago; ¹¹ but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have. ¹² For ^(N)if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.

¹³ For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; ¹⁴ but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack—that there may be equality. ¹⁵ As it is written, ^(O)“He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

Collection for the Judean Saints

¹⁶ But thanks be to God who ^[b]puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. ¹⁷ For he not only accepted the exhortation, but being more diligent, he went to you of his own accord. ¹⁸ And we have sent with him ^(P)the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches, ¹⁹ and not only that, but who was also ^(Q)chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift, which is administered by us ^(R)to the glory of the Lord Himself and to show your ready mind, ²⁰ avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this lavish gift which is administered by us— ^21 (S)providing honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

²² And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, because of the great confidence which we have in you. ²³ If anyone inquires about ^(T)Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker concerning you. Or if our brethren are inquired about, they are ^(U)messengers^[c] of the churches, the glory of Christ. ²⁴ Therefore show to them, ^[d]and before the churches, the proof of your love and of our ^(V)boasting on your behalf.

Administering the Gift

9 Now concerning ^(W)the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you; ² for I know your willingness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a ^(X)year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the majority. ^3 (Y)Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may be ready; ⁴ lest if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed of this ^[e]confident boasting. ⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to ^[f]exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a ^[g]grudging obligation.

The Cheerful Giver

^6 (Z)But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows ^[h]bountifully will also reap ^[i]bountifully. ⁷ So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, ^(AA)not grudgingly or of ^[j]necessity; for ^(AB)God loves a cheerful giver. ^8 (AC)And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. ⁹ As it is written:

¹⁰ Now ^[k]may He who ^(AE)supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, ^[l]supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your ^(AF)righteousness, ¹¹ while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, ^(AG)which causes thanksgiving through us to God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only ^(AH)supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, ¹³ while, through the proof of this ministry, they ^(AI)glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal ^(AJ)sharing with them and all men, ¹⁴ and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding ^(AK)grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God ^(AL)for His indescribable gift!

¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be spent ^(A)for your souls; though ^(B)the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

Philippian Generosity

¹⁰ But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last ^(A)your^[a] care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. ¹¹ Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, ^(B)to be content: ^12 (C)I know how to ^[b]be abased, and I know how to ^[c]abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. ¹³ I can do all things ^(D)through ^[d]Christ who strengthens me.

¹⁴ Nevertheless you have done well that ^(E)you shared in my distress. ¹⁵ Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, ^(F)no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. ¹⁶ For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. ¹⁷ Not that I seek the gift, but I seek ^(G)the fruit that abounds to your account. ¹⁸ Indeed I ^[e]have all and abound. I am full, having received from ^(H)Epaphroditus the things sent from you, ^(I)a sweet-smelling aroma, ^(J)an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. ¹⁹ And my God ^(K)shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
