Psalm 130

A song of ascents.

¹Out of the depths^(A) I cry to you,^(B) Lord;
² Lord, hear my voice.^(C)
Let your ears be attentive^(D)
to my cry for mercy.^(E)

³If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?^(F)
⁴But with you there is forgiveness,^(G)
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.^(H)

⁵I wait for the Lord,^(I) my whole being waits,^(J)
    and in his word^(K) I put my hope.
⁶I wait for the Lord
    more than watchmen^(L) wait for the morning,
    more than watchmen wait for the morning.^(M)

⁷Israel, put your hope^(N) in the Lord,
    for with the Lord is unfailing love^(O)
    and with him is full redemption.^(P)
⁸He himself will redeem^(Q) Israel
    from all their sins.^(R)

Ezekiel 36:8-15

New International Version

⁸“‘But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit^(A) for my people Israel, for they will soon come home. ⁹I am concerned for you and will look on you with favor; you will be plowed and sown,^(B) ¹⁰and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins^(C) rebuilt.^(D) ¹¹I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful^(E) and become numerous. I will settle people^(F) on you as in the past^(G) and will make you prosper more than before.^(H) Then you will know that I am the Lord. ¹²I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance;^(I) you will never again deprive them of their children.

¹³“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because some say to you, “You devour people^(J) and deprive your nation of its children,” ¹⁴therefore you will no longer devour people or make your nation childless, declares the Sovereign Lord. ¹⁵No longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(K)’”

⁴⁴He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you:^(A) Everything must be fulfilled^(B) that is written about me in the Law of Moses,^(C) the Prophets^(D) and the Psalms.”^(E)

⁴⁵Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. ⁴⁶He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer^(F) and rise from the dead on the third day,^(G) ⁴⁷and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name^(H) to all nations,^(I) beginning at Jerusalem.^(J) ⁴⁸You are witnesses^(K) of these things. ⁴⁹I am going to send you what my Father has promised;^(L) but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension of Jesus

⁵⁰When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany,^(M) he lifted up his hands and blessed them. ⁵¹While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.^(N) ⁵²Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. ⁵³And they stayed continually at the temple,^(O) praising God.
