³⁰ “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth^[a] will mourn^(A) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,^(B) with power and great glory.^{[b] 31} And he will send his angels^(C) with a loud trumpet call,^(D) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

⁵² in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,^(A) the dead^(B) will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³ For the perishable^(C) must clothe itself with the imperishable,^(D) and the mortal with immortality. ⁵⁴ When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”^[a](E)

⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin,^(G) and the power of sin is the law.^{(H) 57} But thanks be to God!^(I) He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.^(J)

⁵⁸ Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,^(K) because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.^(L)
