The Apostles Commissioned^(A)

^19 (B)Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were ^[a]assembled, for ^(C)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ^(D)“Peace be with you.” ²⁰ When He had said this, He ^(E)showed them His hands and His side. ^(F)Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

²¹ So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! ^(G)As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” ²² And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ^23 (H)If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

^3 (A)to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many ^[a]infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit Promised

^4 (B)And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have ^(C)heard from Me; ^5 (D)for John truly baptized with water, ^(E)but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

^5 (A)and that He was seen by ^[a]Cephas, then ^(B)by the twelve.
