²³ Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.^(A) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.^(B)

⁵ But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word^(A) the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.^{(B) 6} By these waters also the world of that time^(C) was deluged and destroyed.^(D)
