¹⁶ In the fourth generation^(A) your descendants will come back here,^(B) for the sin of the Amorites^(C) has not yet reached its full measure.”

¹⁶ He said, “Because hands were lifted up against^[a] the throne of the Lord,^[b] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites^(A) from generation to generation.”^(B)

¹⁷ Remember what the Amalekites^(A) did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. ¹⁸ When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.^{(B) 19} When the Lord your God gives you rest^(C) from all the enemies^(D) around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the name of Amalek^(E) from under heaven. Do not forget!

⁸ and followed the practices of the nations^(A) the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.

¹¹ At every high place they burned incense, as the nations whom the Lord had driven out before them had done. They did wicked things that aroused the Lord’s anger.

²⁵ When they first lived there, they did not worship the Lord; so he sent lions^(A) among them and they killed some of the people.
