¹⁴ For the Lord your God moves^(A) about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy,^(B) so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.

²¹ If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it,^(A) for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.^{(B) 22} But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty.^{(C) 23} Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.

⁶ Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son^(A) into our hearts,^(B) the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,^[a] Father.”^{(C) 7} So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.^(D)

²⁴ These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem that is above^(A) is free, and she is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written:

²⁸ Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.^{(C) 29} At that time the son born according to the flesh^(D) persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit.^(E) It is the same now. ³⁰ But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”^{[b](F) 31} Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman,^(G) but of the free woman.^(H)
