25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

And all the men were about twelve.

25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor[a](A) and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.(B) 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila(C) heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia,(D) the brothers and sisters(E) encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures(F) that Jesus was the Messiah.(G)

Paul in Ephesus

19 While Apollos(H) was at Corinth,(I) Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus.(J) There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit(K) when[b] you believed?”

They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”

“John’s baptism,” they replied.

Paul said, “John’s baptism(L) was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”(M) On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.(N) When Paul placed his hands on them,(O) the Holy Spirit came on them,(P) and they spoke in tongues[c](Q) and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all.
