Thus says David the son of Jesse;
Thus says ^(A)the man raised up on high,
^(B)The anointed of the God of Jacob,
And the sweet psalmist of Israel:

² “The^(C) Spirit of the Lord spoke by me,
And His word was on my tongue.
³ The God of Israel said,
^(D)The Rock of Israel spoke to me:
‘He who rules over men must be just,
Ruling ^(E)in the fear of God.
⁴ And ^(F)he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises,
A morning without clouds,
Like the tender grass springing out of the earth,
By clear shining after rain.’

⁵ “Although my house is not so with God,
^(G)Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant,
Ordered in all things and secure.
For this is all my salvation and all my desire;
Will He not make it increase?
⁶ But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away,
Because they cannot be taken with hands.
⁷ But the man who touches them
Must be ^[a]armed with iron and the shaft of a spear,
And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place.”

² How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah
³ But know that ^(A)the Lord has ^[c]set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.

^4 (B)Be^[d] angry, and do not sin.
^(C)Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
⁵ Offer ^(D)the sacrifices of righteousness,
And ^(E)put your trust in the Lord.

⁶ There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
^(F)Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
⁷ You have put ^(G)gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
^8 (H)I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
^(I)For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

⁴ For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
Nor shall evil ^[g]dwell with You.
⁵ The ^(L)boastful shall not ^(M)stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
⁶ You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors the ^(N)bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

⁷ But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
In fear of You I will worship toward ^[h]Your holy temple.
^8 (O)Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before my face.

⁹ For there is no ^[i]faithfulness in their mouth;
Their inward part is destruction;
^(P)Their throat is an open tomb;
They flatter with their tongue.
¹⁰ Pronounce them guilty, O God!
Let them fall by their own counsels;
Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
For they have rebelled against You.

¹¹ But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You ^[j]defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.
¹² For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

⁴ Return, O Lord, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
^5 (U)For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks?

⁶ I am weary with my groaning;
^[l]All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears.
^7 (V)My eye wastes away because of grief;
It grows old because of all my enemies.

^8 (W)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the Lord has ^(X)heard the voice of my weeping.
⁹ The Lord has heard my supplication;
The Lord will receive my prayer.
¹⁰ Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

^2 (C)Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ^[b]ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence ^(D)the enemy and the avenger.

³ When I ^(E)consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
^4 (F)What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You ^(G)visit^[c] him?
⁵ For You have made him a little lower than ^[d]the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

^6 (H)You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
^(I)You have put all things under his feet,
⁷ All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
⁸ The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.

^9 (J)O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

³ When my enemies turn back,
They shall fall and perish at Your presence.
⁴ For You have maintained my right and my cause;
You sat on the throne judging in righteousness.
⁵ You have rebuked the ^[f]nations,
You have destroyed the wicked;
You have ^(M)blotted out their name forever and ever.

⁶ O enemy, destructions are finished forever!
And you have destroyed cities;
Even their memory has ^(N)perished.
^7 (O)But the Lord shall endure forever;
He has prepared His throne for judgment.
^8 (P)He shall judge the world in righteousness,
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.

⁹ The Lord also will be a ^(Q)refuge^[g] for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.
¹⁰ And those who ^(R)know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

¹¹ Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion!
^(S)Declare His deeds among the people.
^12 (T)When He avenges blood, He remembers them;
He does not forget the cry of the ^[h]humble.

¹³ Have mercy on me, O Lord!
Consider my trouble from those who hate me,
You who lift me up from the gates of death,
¹⁴ That I may tell of all Your praise
In the gates of ^[i]the daughter of Zion.
I will ^(U)rejoice in Your salvation.

^15 (V)The ^[j]nations have sunk down in the pit which they made;
In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.
¹⁶ The Lord is ^(W)known by the judgment He executes;
The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.
^(X)Meditation.^[k] Selah

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And all the ^[l]nations ^(Y)that forget God.
^18 (Z)For the needy shall not always be forgotten;
^(AA)The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

¹⁹ Arise, O Lord,
Do not let man prevail;
Let the ^[m]nations be judged in Your sight.
²⁰ Put them in fear, O Lord,
That the ^[n]nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah

⁴ The Lord is in His holy temple,
The Lord’s ^(D)throne is in heaven;
^(E)His eyes behold,
His eyelids test the sons of men.
⁵ The Lord ^(F)tests the righteous,
But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
⁶ Upon the wicked He will rain coals;
Fire and brimstone and a burning wind
^(G)Shall be ^[b]the portion of their cup.

⁷ For the Lord is righteous,
He ^(H)loves righteousness;
^[c]His countenance beholds the upright.
