Paul was in a precarious position. In order to escape the persecuting Jews, he had to accept imprisonment by the powerful Romans. Yet in the midst of Paul’s trials, God gave him a specific mission—to testify about Jesus in Rome, the capital of the world empire. Though the circumstances were dangerous, the Lord stood near Paul, encouraging him.
When you feel imprisoned by a relationship or persecuted for your faith, remember God’s purpose in allowing the strain—so that you will testify about Jesus. Take courage! You are not alone in your trials (see 2 Timothy 4:17). He is standing near to give you strength.
