What we mean by that is that throughout history, we\u2019ve seen those who have rightly applied the principles of the Bible, and we\u2019ve seen revolutionary results. People who follow the principles of the Bible\u2014even unknowingly\u2014tend to have a dramatic impact on their world. For instance, no one would argue that it\u2019s a bad idea \u201cto love your neighbor as yourself\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+22%3A39\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Matthew 22:39 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 22:39<\/a>). On the other hand, those who don\u2019t follow it\u2019s principles or misuse the principles of the Bible for their own purposes can have equally devastating impact. For instance, Jim Jones led a mass suicide of the People\u2019s Temple with his aberrant teachings.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/worlds-largest-museum-of-the-bible-now-open\/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read the Bible Gateway Blog post, World\u2019s Largest Museum of the Bible Now Open\" target=\"_blank\">Read the Bible Gateway Blog post, <em>World\u2019s Largest Museum of the Bible Now Open<\/em><\/a>]<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B9SWpbHuatk?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>How (and why) did you get the idea to build a museum dedicated to the Bible?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> Actually, we had some other people bring us the idea of the museum dedicated to the Bible. They asked us to look at some buildings for them, and later we were able to buy a Bible artifact in 2009. Our intentions at that time, however, were to donate artifacts to a museum that someone else would develop. However, after a period of time passed, it became clear that the Lord was impressing upon us that our country needed a world class Bible museum and that it was our calling to undertake such a project. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumofthebible.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Museum of the Bible website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Museum of the Bible<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/museumofBible\" title=\"Museum of the Bible Twitter stream\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">@museumofBible<\/a>) officially opened its doors to the public on November 17, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HNcKU6lK78U?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>Paint a picture of how the Bible came to be and how it has been passed down through the centuries to us.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> I love that passage of Scripture in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+15%3A4\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Romans 15:4 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Romans 15:4<\/a> where it says, &#8220;For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.&#8221; The story of the Scriptures coming together is a story in and of itself. From the earliest times, people wanted to record the story of the Bible whether on tablets, papyrus, scrolls, or elaborately decorated manuscripts. But even above recording the story, we\u2019ve seen people who fought valiantly to bring the Scriptures to life for the common man to read.<\/p>\n<p>Today we take it for granted that the Bible is in our language. We forget that the Bible used to not be available to the common man. It\u2019s no wonder that <em>TIME<\/em> magazine recorded the number one event of the last 1,000 years was the Gutenberg printing of the Bible which made this book available in mass form to all people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the book you describe the Codex Climaci Rescriptus. What is it and why is it important?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> The Codex Climacti Rescriptus represents a significant find in the artifact world. There\u2019s little doubt that there\u2019s a renewed interest in archaeology in our world today\u2014to find the meaning and origins of things. The CCR represents one such example. To backtrack, ancient writers used tablets, then papyrus, then parchment as writing instruments. Parchment was often animal skins and when bound together could make a book\u2014or \u201ccodex.\u201d The CCR is one such book and each page contains multiple layers of writing\u2014the top layer of manuscript has been added or written on the text beneath. Through new technology we can now begin to determine the content of the underlying text. And in the case of the CCR, most of the underlying text is in Aramaic, the language of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How has the Bible shaped the world?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> Wow! We have an entire chapter in <a href=\"https:\/\/biblegateway.christianbook.com\/Christian\/Books\/product?item_no=351474&#038;p=1172374&#038;utm_source=bg&#038;utm_medium=blog&#038;utm_campaign=interview\" title=\"Buy your copy of This Dangerous Book in the Bible Gateway Store where you'll enjoy low prices every day\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>This Dangerous Book<\/em><\/a> dedicated to this very subject. There\u2019s a few ways to answer the question. One is the way John answered the question in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+21%3A25\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read John 21:25 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">John 21:25<\/a>: \u201cJesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.\u201d There\u2019s just so much within the story of God\u2014the story of Jesus\u2014that the world doesn\u2019t have room for all the books.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, imagine a world without the Bible and it\u2019s principles. We\u2019ve seen some of that narrative described in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Judges+21%3A25\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Judges 21:25 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Judges 21:25<\/a> where every man did what was right in his own eyes. There\u2019s no question that great discoveries have been made, scientific principles, art created, music composed, wars fought, countries divided, fashion created, and lives changed\u2014all because of this book all across the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What role did the Bible have in the founding of America? And in influencing our culture?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> I suspect that few would know that at one point in America\u2019s history Congress actually authorized the printing and payment for a Bible. That fact illustrates the high regard that the Bible was held in early American society. While not all of our early leaders were necessarily Christian, they held the Bible in high esteem. As a result, we see biblical ideas woven into the founding documents of our country like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. For instance, the Declaration of Independence explicity states \u201cthat all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights\u2026\u201d This is a biblical idea stemming from the dignity of all people\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+139%3A14\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Psalm 139:14 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 139:14<\/a>\u2014we are fearfully and wonderfully made.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can people of other faith traditions learn by seeing biblical artifacts or reading the Bible?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> If you can imagine the story of the world as a giant movie, to not have some understanding of the Bible\u2014its story, its history, and its impact\u2014would be like watching a great movie and removing part of the plot. It can\u2019t be done. The real truth is that everyone regardless of faith tradition benefits from knowing and understanding these aspects of the Bible. It enhances one\u2019s knowledge of literature, science, art etc. It&#8217;s difficult to read any classic work of literature for instance and not see biblical allusions. <\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w0KzvwUG5so?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want to achieve with the Museum of the Bible?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> Our aim with the Museum is pretty simple: we want all people to engage with the Bible. It\u2019s not about a particular point of view or a faith tradition. We believe that all people will benefit from knowing the stories of the Bible, the history of the Bible and the impact of the Bible. Even well-known atheist Richard Dawkins was quoted in a June 2017 interview with <em>The Telegraph<\/em> as saying: \u201cI think that it is an important part of our culture to know about the Bible; after all, so much of English literature has allusions to the Bible, if you look up the <em>Oxford English Dictionary<\/em> you find something like the same number of quotations from the Bible as from Shakespeare.\u201d  Similarly, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Timothy+3%3A16\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read 2 Timothy 3:16 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">2 Timothy 3:16<\/a>, the Bible says of itself that it is \u201cprofitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is a favorite Bible passage of yours and why?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+1\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Psalm 1 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 1<\/a>\u2014this passage of Scripture reflects the tremendous promise of those who meditate on God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your thoughts about Bible Gateway and the Bible Gateway App?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> I love using Bible Gateway as a resource for my Bible reading and study. When I want to find a Bible verse or do some study, it is often one of the first places that I go. It\u2019s easy to use. And I hope that the Museum efforts will cause many to turn to Bible Gateway as a resource. In fact, one of the exhibits in the Museum is the \u201cBible Now\u201d exhibit which will showcase how the Bible is being used, read, and shared through tools like Bible Gateway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there anything else you\u2019d like to say?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Green:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+55%3A11\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Read Isaiah 55:11 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Isaiah 55:11<\/a> says, \u201cSo shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.\u201d I believe that.
