I dove into these because they\u2019re so relevant to the lives of teen and tween girls, and they all tie together. My goal with <a href=\"https:\/\/biblegateway.christianbook.com\/Christian\/Books\/product?item_no=087234&#038;p=1172374&#038;utm_source=bg&#038;utm_medium=blog&#038;utm_campaign=interview\" title=\"Buy your copy of Liked in the Bible Gateway Store where you'll enjoy low prices every day\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Liked<\/em><\/a> is to help girls tune into the quiet voice of God inside them over the megaphone of public opinion, and to trust Him when making decisions, understanding their worth, and searching for who they are. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Why can social media be so damaging to girls?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kari Kampakis:<\/strong> Like most things, social media has an upside and a downside. It can be used for good\u2014to spread positivity and hope\u2014or it can be used in narcissistic or hurtful ways. In today\u2019s world, social media is often seen as a way to get famous, get even, or get attention. It doesn\u2019t matter what you post as long as you attract a large following and get tons of likes and shares. Girls who buy into this will end up making some poor choices and will give social media a power it doesn\u2019t deserve: the power to dictate their worth based on the fleeting opinions of people rather than the timeless truths of God.<\/p>\n<p>This can be especially damaging for teen and tween girls because they\u2019re figuring out their identity. They aren\u2019t firm in who they are yet, and if they rely on the world to shape them and define them, they\u2019ll end up disillusioned and disappointed. This is why I\u2019m passionate about helping girls find their identity in Christ and things with eternal value, because that is what takes their lives in a meaningful direction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How should girls incorporate the Bible into their social networking lives?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kari Kampakis:<\/strong> The best way for girls to incorporate the Bible into their social networking lives is to pick a goal that pleases God. One verse I like is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A8\" title=\"Read Philippians 4:8 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Philippians 4:8<\/a> says, \u201cFinally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable\u2014if anything is excellent or praiseworthy\u2014think about such things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This verse is a great filter for social media. It\u2019s a reminder that God is found in the good, and by posting things that reflect his light\u2014that is, a picture of a baby cousin, a birthday tribute to a friend, a rainbow over the ball field\u2014you honor God and potentially inspire others to do the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are 10 biblical truths about self-worth and how should girls live by them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kari Kampakis:<\/strong> In <a href=\"https:\/\/biblegateway.christianbook.com\/Christian\/Books\/product?item_no=087234&#038;p=1172374&#038;utm_source=bg&#038;utm_medium=blog&#038;utm_campaign=interview\" title=\"Buy your copy of Liked in the Bible Gateway Store where you'll enjoy low prices every day\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Liked<\/em><\/a>, the chapter on confidence begins with this: \u201cWhat other people say about you is opinion. What God says about you is fact. The way to know your worth is to focus on the facts.\u201d Here are 10 biblical truths to support that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> I am made in God\u2019s image (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+1%3A26-28\" title=\"Read Genesis 1:26-28 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Genesis 1:26-28<\/a>), and I have great potential to grow more like Him and reflect His goodness to others.<\/li>\n<li> God is within me, so I will not fall (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+46%3A5\" title=\"Read Psalm 46:5 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 46:5<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> Nothing can separate me from the love of God that I receive through Christ (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+8%3A39\" title=\"Read Romans 8:39 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Romans 8:39<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> God has begun a good work in me, and He\u2019ll continue that work until the day Jesus returns (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+1%3A6\" title=\"Read Philippians 1:6 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Philippians 1:6).<\/li>\n<li> God\u2019s love toward me is great (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+86%3A13\" title=\"Read Psalm 86:13 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 86:13<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> God\u2019s plan for me is worth the wait (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah+29%3A11\" title=\"Read Jeremiah 29:11 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremiah 29:11<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> Everything God makes, including me, is good (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+1%3A31\" title=\"Read Genesis 1:31 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Genesis 1:31<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> I can confidently trust the Lord to care for me and not fear bad news (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+112%3A7\" title=\"Read Psalm 112:7 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 112:7<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> Jesus looks for me when I\u2019m lost (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+18%3A12-14\" title=\"Read Matthew 18:12-14 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 18:12-14<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li> The world needs my light because God created me to shine for Him (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+5%3A14-16\" title=\"Read Matthew 5:14-16 on Bible Gateway\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 5:14-16<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The way to live by truths is to truly embrace them, and to tuck them away in your heart so that when heartaches or disappointments arise, you can counsel yourself with what you know to be true deep down\u2014regardless of what the world says.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your thoughts about Bible Gateway and the Bible Gateway App?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Kari Kampakis:<\/strong> I love Bible Gateway! It makes my job much easier by literally putting Scripture at my fingertips. They see no benefit, only the harmful and negative effects. I agree there is great danger we need to protect our kids from, but I also believe social media presents a huge opportunity to create good. It gives every individual a stage and a microphone to easily and quickly share messages that might help or inspire people. Rather than fight social media and treat it as the enemy, I believe we should empower our kids to use it wisely.
