The Bible translation that explains itself in more than 60,000 translators’ notes offering unprecedented transparency is now about to be released in multiple printed editions. Thomas Nelson Bibles is partnering with Bible.org/Biblical Studies Press to publish New English Translation Bible (NET) Full-Notes print editions that will be available October 1, 2019.
The planning, development, and online publication of the NET began in 1995, when a team of more than 25 of the world’s foremost Bible scholars (led by three Dallas Theological Seminary professors: W. Hall Harris, Daniel B. Wallace, and Robert B. Chisholm), gathered around the shared vision of creating an English Bible translation with a ministry mission.
No other Bible translation is so openly accountable to the worldwide church or has been so thoroughly vetted. More than 60,000 notes support every major decision, outline alternative views, and explain difficult or nontraditional renderings of the Bible’s original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek text. Throughout the NET’s uniquely transparent translation process, every working draft was made publicly available on the internet. Bible scholars, ministers, and laypersons from around the world logged millions of review sessions. NET translators then filtered every question and suggestion through the very best in biblical linguistics, textual criticism, and their unwavering commitment to following the text wherever it led.
“I’ve known about the NET online for many years and was intrigued by the comprehensive translation notes, something I’ve never seen in another Bible,” says John Kramp, group publisher for Thomas Nelson Bibles. “Two years ago, I read through the full NET translation as part of my personal devotional time and was struck by the clarity and readability of the text. It’s an honor to partner with Bible.org to bring a full line of beautiful NET Bibles to people around the world.”
Features of the NET Bibles include:
- The newest complete English translation based on the most up-to-date manuscript discoveries and scholarship
- A translation that explains itself—over 60,000 translators’ notes offer unprecedented transparency

“We’re delighted to see the NET enter an entirely new phase of print publication. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with Thomas Nelson to bring this exciting project to fruition,” says W. Hall Harris III, ThM, PhD, project director and managing editor for Biblical Studies Press. “We can’t wait to see the impact the NET will have in the areas of teaching and exposition, theological discussion, missions, and Bible study for everyone.”
The first and second editions of the NET were released by Biblical Studies Press. Thomas Nelson is partnering with BSP to steward the publication of the NET moving forward. It will also continue to be available online at Bible.org (@bibleorg) and on Bible Gateway (@biblegateway).
The NET Bible is published by HarperCollins Christian Publishing, Inc., the parent company of Bible Gateway.
