Psalm 116:3
The sorrows of death encompassed me, and the pains of hell got hold upon me; I found trouble and sorrow.
The cords of death compassed me, And the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
The cords and sorrows of death encompassed me, And the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow.
The cords and sorrows of death were around me, and the terrors of Sheol (the place of the dead) had laid hold of me; I suffered anguish and grief (trouble and sorrow).
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
The ropes of death were wrapped around me, and the torments of Sheol overcame me; I encountered trouble and sorrow.
Death’s ropes bound me; the distress of the grave found me— I came face-to-face with trouble and grief.
The cords of death were all around me, Sh’ol’s constrictions held me fast; I was finding only distress and anguish.
Death attacked from all sides, and I was captured by its painful chains. But when I was really hurting,
The bands of death encompassed me, and the anguish of Sheol took hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow:
Death’s ropes were around me. The grave was closing in on me. I was worried and afraid.
The danger of death was very near to me. I became afraid of the deep hole of death. I was very sad and upset.
The ropes of death entangled me. The walls of the grave hemmed me in. I found distress and sorrow.
The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.

The ·ropes [cords] of death ·bound [encompass] me, and the ·fear [hardship; distress] of ·the grave [L Sheol; C the grave or the underworld] ·took hold of [reached; found] me. I ·was troubled and sad [L found distress and sadness].
When the snares of death compassed me, and the griefs of the grave caught me: When I found trouble and sorrow.
The ropes of death became tangled around me. The horrors of the grave took hold of me. I experienced pain and agony.
The danger of death was all around me; the horrors of the grave closed in on me; I was filled with fear and anxiety.

Death stared me in the face—I was frightened and sad.
I love God because he listened to me, listened as I begged for mercy. He listened so intently as I laid out my case before him. Death stared me in the face, hell was hard on my heels. Up against it, I didn’t know which way to turn; then I called out to God for help: “Please, God!” I cried out. “Save my life!” God is gracious—it is he who makes things right, our most compassionate God. God takes the side of the helpless; when I was at the end of my rope, he saved me.

The ropes of death were wrapped around me. The horrors of the grave came over me. I was overcome by sadness and sorrow.

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.

Once I was wound in the wrappings of death; the terror of dying and the grave had a grip on me; I could not get away, for I was entombed in distress and sorrow.
The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.
The sorrows of death (en)compassed me; and the perils of hell found me. I found tribulation and sorrow; (The sorrows of death surrounded me; and the perils of Sheol, or the land of the dead, took hold of me. And I found myself in trouble and in sorrow;)
Compassed me have cords of death, And straits of Sheol have found me, Distress and sorrow I find.
