40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, “Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art under the same condemnation?

40 Responding, the other criminal spoke harshly to him, “Don’t you fear God, seeing that you’ve also been sentenced to die?

40 But the other one spoke up and rebuked the first, saying, “Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same punishment as he is.

40 But the other criminal told the first one off, “Don’t you fear God? Aren’t you getting the same punishment as this man?

40 But the other criminal stopped him. He said, “You should fear God. All of us will die soon.

40 The other one, however, rebuked him, saying, “Don't you fear God? You received the same sentence he did.

40-41 But the other one checked him with the words, “Aren’t you afraid of God even when you’re getting the same punishment as he is? And it’s fair enough for us, for we’ve only got what we deserve, but this man never did anything wrong in his life.”

40-41 But the other criminal protested. “Don’t you even fear God when you are dying? We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn’t done one thing wrong.”

40-41 But the other one made him shut up: “Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same as him. We deserve this, but not him—he did nothing to deserve this.”
