60:6 God has spoken in his holiness. The divine oracle was probably spoken through a prophet associated with the temple (see text note). The gist of his message is that victory will be forthcoming, a message borne out by the report in 2 Sam. 8.

Shechem . . . Succoth. These names are the first two places that Jacob occupied after returning from his encounter with Esau (Gen. 33:17–20). They are on opposite sides of the Jordan River.
