6:11 poverty. Proverbs warns against attitudes and behavior that produce poverty. Laziness is one of these (10:4, 5; 19:15; 20:13). While diligence and industry are normally associated with prosperity (12:11; 13:4; 14:23), it must not be said that all poverty is the result of folly (14:31; 17:5; 19:1, 17, 22; 21:12; 22:22; 28:3, 11).

like a robber . . . an armed man. The comparison is not so much to a sneaky thief who comes at night, as to a robber who overpowers his victim.
