2:20–22 The promise of land was a basic part of the covenant God made with Abraham, Moses, and the people (Gen. 13:15 and note; Ex. 20:12; Deut. 1:8; 26:1–9). These promises foreshadow the promise of eternal life (Heb. 11:16). The conditional aspect of the covenant is reflected here (Gen. 17:2 note)—the upright and the wise inherit the land, but the wicked are removed (Deut. 28).
