Pr 11:8

11:8 delivered. An apparent reference to God’s providential intervention. Proverbial sayings often state what is generally true, but not without exceptions. The suffering of the righteous (e.g., Job) shows that while a degree of order is perceptible in human experience, such order is not invariable since God is sovereign and pursues His own eternal purposes. Only trust in God’s goodness, even when His goodness is not immediately seen, addresses the problem of the righteous sufferer. See note 10:1–22:16; and “Introduction to Hebrew Poetry.”
