Pr 1:12

1:12 Sheol. The realm of death is here depicted as ready to swallow its victims. Elsewhere this poetic term denotes a realm where corruption is father and the worm is mother (Job 17:13, 14), a domain with gates (Is. 38:10). It is a land of no return (Job 7:9), silence (Ps. 94:17), darkness (Ps. 143:3), and forgetfulness (Ps. 88:11, 12). See 9:18 note; Is. 14:9–11 note.
